I have decided that I want to try to train for a marathon, or at least a half marathon to start with. Does anyone have any tips on what I could do to get started? I have found tons of websites with info, but I want to hear what other people have done that has worked.

go on the website called runnersworld.com. there you can fill in information about yourself, and they’ll give you a workout plan as long as 16 weeks. try it, that’s what i did!! make sure u cross train, ‘cuz if u dont you’ll get shin splints because u use the same muscles too much. also make sure you have good shoes like asics. stretch also.

It depends on if you’re starting from scratch or have been running a little while already.
The following book is very commonly used by first timers who have primary goal of completion:

Start by running as many miles as you can. Do this 2 times a week and gradually add 0.50 of a mile to it every week. Try 4-8 sprints about 200 meters long 2 times a week. 1 day a week, climb hills. 2 days of rest. Also eat a healthy diet that consists of vegetables, grains, and protein. Drink plenty of water too. Make sure you stretch before every workout.
Goodluck!
